Note to self. Don’t start doing a 7 days in series that coincides with a holiday or the 12 days of beermas.
I’m going to summarize my experiences and close off the series early.
Things I have learned:
Opera is a great browser, fully customizable with a kitchen sink approach to features. It has been an innovating force in the browser world for many years yet somehow remained a quiet 4th to Firefox, IE and Chrome. I’m sure the actual developers of the 3 main browsers are well aware of Opera and adopting features that it innovates on.
Over the week I grew to like running everything in the one window – Mail, Chat, News, etc; it grew on me. I guess the main lesson I learned from this experiment was that I could be using a browser more deeply than I realized.
I’m not sure what browser I will end up in as I have grown to like Opera a lot, but it isn’t free software. Software freedom is important to me and that may play a factor in which browser I settle on.
So in closing - there is far more in the browser than I ever bothered to learn and my approach to using a browser is going to change as a result of this walk in Opera’s shoes.
Special thanks to Stuzz for suggesting I try Opera and providing so much information on how to use it.
Cheers.
